Calvin’s Testimony

Someone once said, “The secret to the Christian life is found in continually saying yes to God.” I am ashamed to say that I have not always said “yes.” But I can say, when I have, God has done great miracles!
My first “yes” was to salvation. As a six-year-old boy, I was sitting in the Sunday school class of a faithful lady. She was teaching on the differences between Heaven and Hell and describing the people in each place. After she gave the Gospel clearly that morning, I did not trust Christ. But the following Monday, I asked my mother to show me again in the Bible how to be saved. We sat down on our basement steps, and there, my mother led me to Jesus. I said “yes” to salvation and put my faith in Jesus as Savior.
My second “yes” was to surrender. I waved “the white flag of surrender” to Jesus in a Wednesday night kids’ meeting. At just eight years old, I did not know the extent of what this meant, but I wanted Jesus to have all of me. I began to tell folks at our church and in our town that I was going to be a preacher when I grew up. I have never forgotten my surrender that day.
My third “yes” was to service. After telling everyone I was going to preach, my youth pastor at the time made sure that I did just that. He had me preach for a teen talent competition at age 13. I preached on the Parable of the Sower. Let me tell you, I was scared to death, but God was with me! I thank God for that same youth pastor, my parents, and others to follow who were faithful to invest time in my life. They taught me how to be a better preacher and a better witness for Christ. They led and taught by example, taking me on visitation and soul-winning. Although they made a great impression on my life, through them, Jesus made the greatest impression of all.
God has continued to lead in my life as I said “yes” to His plans. Upon graduation from high school, He led me to Crown College of the Bible. A few years, later I met Mindy – the love of my life. Since our marriage in 2006, God has blessed us with four beautiful children, Blaine, Esther, Adeline, and Carson. As God has continually opened doors for ministry, we have said “yes.” The experiences we have had together so far have been invaluable. Our greatest “yes” to date has been our surrender to the mission field. We are thrilled at the call to labor in His harvest fields together in the Philippines.

Mindy’s Testimony

“To whom much is given…” God has abundantly blessed my life. My story began when Christ saved my parents as young adults so that I might receive salvation as a young child. My dad and mom influenced me with their passion for the Lord and their involvement in His work through the local church. The Word of God was constantly in my ears and soon made its way into my young heart. I remember lying in bed one night and realizing that the message I was hearing in Sunday School was true. My young heart was sinful and needed a Savior. I climbed out of bed, entered my parents’ bedroom, and announced that I wanted to be saved. Right then and there, my mom opened the Bible and led me to Christ. Soon after, I was baptized.

And God continues to bless. While at Crown College of the Bible, I not only acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education, but also married a wonderful man with a sincere heart for the Lord, Calvin Houser. We have grown our family with four precious additions one of which we added by way of adoption from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“…Much is required.” As we embark on this adventure as a family, may all we are given slip through our fingers and fall back at His feet. We are thrilled that God would equip us for and call us to His work in the Philippines.
